• Toxicity: The hulls contain juglone and high levels of tannins, which can be toxic in concentrated forms, potentially causing stomach irritation, nausea, diarrhea, and long-term liver or kidney strain.

• Drug Interactions: Tannins in black walnut can bind to medications in the digestive tract, significantly reducing the absorption and effectiveness of oral drugs, particularly anticoagulants (blood thinners) and diabetes medications.

• Should be avoided by individuals with liver disease, kidney disorders, or thrombophlebitis, as well as those taking seizure medications or anticoagulants (specifically when combined with wormwood).

• Usage Limits: Internal use should not exceed two to three weeks continuously, as prolonged use may lead to toxicity or genetic mutation risks associated with juglone.
